Alex Fraser Bridge Capacity Improvements project includes the reconfiguration of lanes across the existing cable-stayed bridge to permit the installation of a counterflow system. The counterflow is achieved via a movable barrier system and associated dynamic message signs, lane control signals, and other blank out warning signage. The project’s ITS systems include the installation of CCTV cameras, vehicle detection stations, fibre optic network, road weather information systems, bridge access security monitoring systems, and snow/ice monitoring of the cable stays. In addition, the project included a Fraser River crossing delay time information system providing delay time information for 4 river crossings via 13 DMS throughout the region. The system utilizes a Bluetooth travel time monitoring system. The project also included significant electrical upgrades to the bridge, including redundant back-up generator systems, electrical service upgrades, LED lighting upgrades, and provisions for future elevator loads. PBX undertook all electrical/systems design, software functional requirements, procurement, configuration, testing, commissioning, and construction engineering services.
