PBX Engineering & IBI Group is honoured to have received this year’s MoTI Deputy Minister’s Award of Excellence in Specialized Engineering Services for the Variable Speed Limit System (VSLS).
PBX was nominated for two projects at the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineering Awards in the Specialized Engineering Services Category.
The Variable Speed Limit System informs drivers of safe speed limits along three highway corridors, which are particularly affected by changing and adverse weather conditions. Electronic speed limit signs are updated, in real-time, as road conditions vary. Innovative software design approaches were employed to analyze weather, road state, and traffic conditions, supporting a high level of accuracy and operational effectiveness. The award was presented by the Honourable Deputy Minister, Todd Stone (left) to Cory Edgar (middle), Project Manager and Senior Design Engineer of this project, Rupert Vey of PBX Engineering and IBI group.
PBX was also nominated for the Wildlife Detection System project. The WDS was implemented on two priority corridors on Highway 3 to protect wildlife and increase safety through the application of sophisticated detection technologies integrated with dynamic messaging. The highly accurate and effective system detects the presence of animals on the roadway and warns motorists to reduce speed, thereby reducing collisions. This project received an Honourable Mention in Recognition of Excellence in Specialized Engineering Services.
PBX Engineering is very proud to have received recognition for these projects and we look forward to designing future projects that contribute to British Columbia’s infrastructure and enhance the lives and safety of people everywhere in our province and beyond.
