Senior staff from PBX Engineering attended ITS Canada’s 19th Annual Conference and Exhibition held in sunny Calgary, May 02-04. This year’s theme of “Connectivity, Proximity, and Mobility” drew prominent industry speakers from many forward thinking companies and agencies, including Uber, GM, and GE. Connected and autonomous vehicles were a significant theme, accompanied by an array of interesting presentations on various ITS topics. Of particular note was the presentation by Local Motors, a company that is now 3D printing cars.
Cory Edgar P.Eng., PE, PTOE gave an excellent presentation on the Variable Speed Limit System that is about to go live in BC. Ian Steele P.Eng. presented on several of our projects, including the City of Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre, the Deltaport Vehicular Access Control System (VACS), and the Wildlife Detection System. PBX was a gold-level sponsor of the event this year and presented the project award in the Medium and Smaller Municipal Areas or Rural Application Category during the awards gala. Calgary was an excellent host, with a strong presence from both the City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation. We look forward to next year’s ITS World Congress in Montreal.
